Team English were delighted to have authors Matt Oldfield and Sufiya Ahmed visit Year 7 and 8 students at the beginning of December. Students enjoyed hearing Matt’s passion for ‘the beautiful game’ while a small group of students wrote beautiful prose in Sufiya’s writing workshop. Throughout this Autumn term, Team English have been so impressed with the academic vigour and creativity from our students; from Year 8’s high level of understanding and analysis of Romeo and Juliet to Year 7’s powerful knowledge of myths and legends in our ‘Narrative Origins’ unit. We have been particularly impressed with Year 9’s engagement with our exciting new text introduced this year- Leave Taking by Winsome Pinnock. This is an ambitious text that our students have risen to the challenge for, and we are very proud of their achievements so far. Finally, we have been impressed with our students’ engagement and achievement on Bedrock Learning; our homework platform which improves vocabulary, grammar and knowledge. Students have been reminded that Bedrock homework will be set and due in the new year.
