Student Experience
Cultural Capital opportunities at Bluecoat Trent Academy foster essential knowledge that children need to be educated citizens. This knowledge helps them navigate social situations, understand different cultural perspectives, and appreciate human creativity and achievement.
Please see below for some examples of our Cultural Capital offer 2025-2026:

The DofE Award gives students a chance to grow through new challenges and experiences. From volunteering and learning new skills to physical activities and adventurous expeditions, DofE helps young people build confidence, teamwork, and resilience while earning a respected award. Currently, we have both Year 9 and 10 students who are taking part in gaining their Bronze and Silver awards.
World Challenge is an exciting opportunity for students to develop life skills through adventure, teamwork, and global citizenship. In July 2026, students from our school will embark on a transformative expedition to Morocco, where they will trek through the Atlas Mountains, engage in community projects, and experience a new culture. This journey reflects our school’s core values: Citizenship, as students contribute to meaningful community work; Aspiration, as they challenge themselves in unfamiliar environments; Respect, through cultural exchange and collaboration; and Excellence, by demonstrating resilience, leadership, and personal growth throughout the experience.
At Bluecoat Trent Academy we are making a commitment to women in STEM by beginning our CREST journey in September 2025. We have a strong female presence in our STEM departments and we are committed to breaking down the stereotypical boundaries to help nurture the leader that our futures demand.
CREST brings STEM to life for young people aged 3-19 of all abilities, equipping them to achieve a globally renowned Award. Through hands-on activities and exciting projects, CREST sparks curiosity, builds confidence, and connects students with real-world science, technology, engineering, and maths. Proudly run by the British Science Association, supported by UK Research and Innovation (UKRI), and Urenco. Source: https://www.crestawards.org/
Artsmark is the only nationally recognised quality standard in England for arts, culture, and creativity in educational settings, accredited by Arts Council England. At Bluecoat Trent Academy, we have proudly achieved the Silver Artsmark Award which recognised our strong commitment to embedding arts and culture across the curriculum through staff development, pupil engagement, and creative partnerships with external organisations.
Students are mentored by a PhD researcher from a leading university, exploring an academic topic beyond the standard school curriculum. Through a series of university-style tutorials, they develop their understanding and ultimately produce a 2,000-word research essay. Upon completion, students attend a graduation ceremony hosted by a local university, and have the opportunity for their work to be published in The Scholars Programme anthology.
Each year, we are delighted to offer students the opportunity to attend a local pantomime. This annual trip is a much-loved tradition that provides students with a memorable cultural experience, encourages an appreciation of the performing arts, and supports their personal and social development. The pantomime is always a highlight of the school calendar, giving students the chance to enjoy a fun and engaging live performance while creating lasting memories with their peers!

International Residential Trips and Visits
Languages Trip
Our school trips to Paris are packed with exciting experiences that help students see the world in a whole new way. From standing beneath the Eiffel Tower to cruising down the River Seine, every moment is a chance to explore a city full of history, art, and amazing food. Students get to step outside their comfort zones, try new things, and make unforgettable memories with their friends. It’s not just about what they see, it’s about the confidence they build, the friendships they strengthen, and the stories they bring home.
Ski Trip
The annual ski trip offers students an unforgettable experience on the slopes. Whether they’re beginners or experienced skiers, students enjoy learning new skills, building confidence, and having fun with friends in a stunning mountain setting. It’s a chance to create lasting memories while staying active and adventurous.
Battlefields Trip
At Bluecoat Trent Academy, we believe in the power of learning beyond the classroom. Our battlefield trips offer students a unique opportunity to explore key moments in history by visiting significant sites from past conflicts. Walking in the footsteps of soldiers, exploring memorials, and hearing real-life stories helps pupils gain a deeper, more personal understanding of historical events. These trips not only enrich classroom learning but also encourage empathy, reflection, and a greater appreciation of the sacrifices made during times of war.
