The DofE Award gives students a chance to grow through new challenges and experiences. From volunteering and learning new skills to physical activities and adventurous expeditions, DofE helps young people build confidence, teamwork, and resilience while earning a respected award.
World Challenge is an exciting opportunity for students to develop life skills through adventure, teamwork, and global citizenship. In July 2026, students from our school will embark on a transformative expedition to Morocco, where they will trek through the Atlas Mountains, engage in community projects, and experience a new culture. This journey reflects our school’s core values: Citizenship, as students contribute to meaningful community work; Aspiration, as they challenge themselves in unfamiliar environments; Respect, through cultural exchange and collaboration; and Excellence, by demonstrating resilience, leadership, and personal growth throughout the experience.
At Bluecoat Trent Academy we are making a commitment to women in STEM by beginning our CREST journey in September 2025. We have a strong female presence in our STEM departments and we are committed to breaking down the stereotypical boundaries to help nurture the leader that our futures demand.
CREST brings STEM to life for young people aged 3-19 of all abilities, equipping them to achieve a globally renowned Award. Through hands-on activities and exciting projects, CREST sparks curiosity, builds confidence, and connects students with real-world science, technology, engineering, and maths. Proudly run by the British Science Association, supported by UK Research and Innovation (UKRI), and Urenco. Source: https://www.crestawards.org/
Artsmark is the only nationally recognised quality standard in England for arts, culture, and creativity in educational settings—accredited by Arts Council England. At Bluecoat Trent Academy, we have proudly achieved the Silver Artsmark Award which recognised our strong commitment to embedding arts and culture across the curriculum through staff development, pupil engagement, and creative partnerships with external organisations.
Students are mentored by a PhD researcher from a leading university, exploring an academic topic beyond the standard school curriculum. Through a series of university-style tutorials, they develop their understanding and ultimately produce a 2,000-word research essay. Upon completion, students attend a graduation ceremony hosted by a local university, and have the opportunity for their work to be published in The Scholars Programme anthology.
