Fundamental drawing skills
Overview
Students will develop their understanding of how to create realism within their drawings. They will begin by focussing on how to achieve accuracy in their drawings by using the grid method. Then they will explore how the use of tone can create the illusion of a 3D form within their observational drawing.

Colour Theory
Overview
Students will learn about the colour wheel and how it can be used as a tool for mixing new colours or to select a particular colour scheme. This will culminate in them creating an abstract fish painting inspired by the artist Vincent Scarpace.
Building On
Pupils will enhance their understanding of how to apply paint with greater control and how tones can be created using a different material.

Art in different cultures
Overview
Students will study art from different cultures and understand how it can be linked together through mythology. Students will explore the legend of the Nine Tailed Fox in Japanese culture, Mexican Alibrije and Greek Mythological creature. Students will begin to develop a foundation of knowledge regarding how these stories have been told throughout art history.
Building On
Pupils will use there knowledge of materials and techniques from the Autumn and Spring term and continue to develop their profiency with a range of different materials.

Growth and Decay
Overview
Students will learn how different artists have been inspired by the natural world. They will begin to analyse artworks more indepth look at how artists communicate mood and meaning. Pupils will begin to develop their understanding of photography and how to use a DSLR camera. They will begin to understand how to translate 2D artworks into 3D forms.
Building On
This project builds upon learning from Year 7 revisiting mark-making techniques in a different way by exploring their application to represent texture and tone. This provides them with a new context for applying mark-making beyond the previous lessons. Studnets will also revisit their understanding of colour mixing in order to mix and blend colour pencils.

Graffiti
Overview
Students will study the graffiti art movement and study 3 different artists- Banksy, ROA and Basquiat. They will develop their understanding of how these artists have conveyed different political or social messages regarding themes such as Racism, Social Inequality and Humanity's impact on the animal population. Students will develop their skills in creating artwork in the styles of those artist using different media and techniques such a monprinting, oil pastel, acrylic paint and pen.
Building On
Students will apply their knowledge of mark-making from Term 1 to help them depict accurate fur/scales/feathers on their biro drawing of an animal. They will experiement with using multiple media on top of each other.
Throughout the topic pupils will build upon what art is and how it can be used to communicate a message.

Architecture
Overview
Students will study artists inspired by architecture and buildings and how they have explored these themes in their work. They will study the work of John Piper and Klari Reiss' topographical paintings exploring the environment in which they live. Pupils will have the opportunity to take their own photographs and digitally manipulate them.

Students will continue to build upon their profiency with materials through their repeated use as well as applying techniques they have learnt to different materials.

Identity
Overview
Students will explore how different artists have explored their identity through different materials and imagery. They will then use this to develop personal responses inspired by the artists. Students will continue to build their profiency in different materials and techniques to refine their skills further. Pupils will begin to experiment with using digital methods for creating artwork.

Students will continue to apply their knowledge of tone and mark-making from Year 7 and 8 in order to develop their proficiency in using certain materials. They will build upon their ability to analyse artwork using more complex vocabulary in both written and oral forms.

Overview
Students will analyse how art can be used to motivate political change or spread a message to wider society. Through the use of different materials they will explore the themes of social injustice, people who are displaced due to war, LQBTQ+ and black lives matter. They will have the opportunity to create their own protest art piece on a theme of their choosing.

Food
Overview
Pupils will get a flavour for what it is like to take GCSE art following a similar process to a GCSE art project based on the theme of food. Students will explore the theme of food, responding to different artists in different media and develop a textiles piece as a final outcome.
